People commit crime for selfish reasons?

"All men have crimes, and most of them are hidden". Do you agree with this statement? As a matter of fact, in this modernization and globalization era, many people go against the laws to commit the immoral activities such as kidnapping, murdering and drug dealing because they are self-centered and they do not care about others' feeling. Why do people commit crime? Normally, people commit crimes because that is what they want to do. Criminal behaviour is a matter of choices. Today, there are many excuses cloaked as reasons for criminal acts. This is because jail and the death penalty are not deterrents for them. Instead, there are many self-interest motive for committing crimes such as greed, hatred and revenge and extreme pressure, which are clearly for their own benefits.

Undoubtedly, people usually commit crimes because of jealousy and revenge. How is this phenomenon can happen? The jealousy and revenge usually appear when people do not get what they desired and also unsatisfied with something happened in past or with someone. Consequently, they become full of hatred and this will lead them to commit any kind of crime. Nowadays, there are a lot of crime cases that happened due to jealousy. For example, two girls who are in love with the same guy which might cause triangle love. Each of them would probably take action in order to win over the guy by any mean, without thinking deeply; she would take a dirty tactic that might be a crime. On top of that, revenge can also drag people to commit crime, even if it might be a scarier way. When a person is unable to take revenge by direct means then he adopts indirect and unlawful means to punish the person that he really grudges to. The revenge cases are usually happened between families. For example, a man wants to kill an old man that had killed his dad a long time ago so, by killing that old man, he could get a relief and makes the old man’s family feel the sadness as him feel before. Hence, these show that, the jealousy and revenge can make a person to commit any crime.

Other than that, people commit crime because of their greed for power and respect. Indeed, people usually will look up to those who have higher status, convincing appearance and luxurious life. Therefore, people tend to earn more money to increase their standard of living. However, in order to fulfill their extreme materialistic demand, many people tend to commit crime. Lately, mass media frequently exposed the political corruption by many corporate members and influential persons which already have a pile of assets. In short, it is called as white-collar crime. Subsequently, to upgrade their status, they will do anything even though it is something that against the law and get involved in many illegal activities such as , forgery, embezzlement, bribery and deviance of power. Why is this case could arise among the elites who are commonly from high education background? Certainly, the reason is for their own good reputation without any care about others. Furthermore, they do not have to worry about being brought to justice as for high profile case, their black sheep will face the music while the mastermind still free to enjoy the luxuries of life. Undoubtedly, committing crime for power and respect is a selfish action.

Apart from that, people commit crime because of extreme pressure beneath himself. For instance, for those who suffer from strong sexual desire. He wants something that can ever get it. Therefore, he is more prone to find a victim to satisfy his own willingness and makes others suffer. It is also known as the crime of passion. For the worst, there is some people who is sexual sadism which will feel excited upon seeing his victim's suffering or dying. This type of person does not stop until he reaches the penalty death sentences. He likely will never care about others; what's more important is he could fulfill his wishes. This selfish reason, someday will drag him to the destruction for his bad doing. What we give, we get back. Nevertheless, people should know how to handle the pressure in himself, otherwise it will destroy him back. That's why people who commit this crime are called as selfish; because of his craziness, the victim also suffer.

In conclusion, people commit crimes as part of a selfish desire to get something for nothing. Based on what have been discussed, it is true that people commit crimes for selfish reasons that are greedy, jealousy and revenge even though sometimes they are also influenced by surrounding and poverty of life.  Well, everyone must have his own reason to do something even it is the worst thing. However, this should not be an excuse to be selfish as there are many wise and good ways to solve any problem happened. Indeed, think wisely before act. Hopefully, that people will realize that whatever crimes that they had committed, it is more for selfish reasons. In order to stop this cycle of violence from recurring, they should avoid committing themselves to crime activities, thus ensuring the world to be a safer place to live in for future generations.

Literacy Rate: Bangladesh and Pakistan Lag Behind
by: Najwa Latif

The literacy rate between male and female for year 1990 and 2000 increased steadily for many country generally. However, there was still a great disparity in literacy rate between some countries.

For poor country like Bangladesh, Kuwait and Pakistan, there were slow and imbalance increase of literacy rate between 1990 and 2000 for both male and female with percentage growth was within 10%. Broadly speaking, although female's literacy rate in these countries had risen within the range of 10% over ten years, they still cannot exceed male's rate. Despite this substantial increase, the disparity in literacy rate for developed country such as Brazil, China and Kuwait compared to poor country is still very wide. They also showed a balanced increase of about 10% for both gender throughout the decade. Somehow, in 2000, literacy rate for most of these countries was more than 70% for both gender and this made a difference within range of 20% between poor country's literacy rate. Mostly, the ratio for literate persons in developed countries against those in the poor countries was 3:1.

In conclusion, a large gap between developed and poor countries in terms of literacy rate still extant although all of them showed an increasing trend among in year 2000.
